Physical Access

Please note: Physical access to the Library will be limited to members of the Otis community who need to use our facilities for curricular support. Although we love having people hang out, please come to the Library only when you absolutely need to use our collections, computers, and/or printers.

The Library Is Open By Appointment Only

  • Students: Use 25Live to schedule a slot, at least 24 hours before your visit.  Directions

Health & Safety Precautions

Patrons should adhere to all campus-wide safety precautions, as detailed on Otis Forward.

While using the Library, all patrons must:

  • make an appointment in advance; no drop-ins are allowed
  • wear masks over their mouth and nose
  • wear gloves (provided by us) to handle Library items
  • keep 6 feet distance and follow all physical distancing guidelines
  • follow all signage on floors and furniture to maintain physical distancing
  • follow all directions from staff, which may include showing symptom verification
  • wipe down your work area when you have finished

Hand sanitizer, wipes, and gloves are available in the Library.

Preparing for Your On Campus Appointment

Symptom Checker

Students and Faculty must use the CoVerified app to check symptoms daily, beginning at least 48 hours before their visit. 

For one-time visits, Faculty who are not using CoVerified must fill out this symptom check form at least 48 hours (business days) in advance of their visit.

Library Account

if you have not already done so, please fill out the Library Usage Agreement form. We will then be able to set up your library account  and you you will be able to check out items.

Circulation Procedures

Checking Out Items

  • All library books and materials checked out before the pandemic, were due on August 31, 2020
    • Any materials that are not returned by October 27, 2020, will be billed for replacement.
  • No changes to the check-out periods
    • Most books will still circulate for 3 weeks
  • Bring your Otis ID Card with you. Students can pick up their cards from the Security Office. For more information about these cards, please contact Erica Javidzad in the Student Activities Office

Requests and Curbside Pickup

Eligible local patrons may request items that will be available for pick-up in the parking garage.

  • Log in to the Library Catalog (OPAC)
  • If you receive an error message, fill out the Library Usage Agreement form. Your library account will become available after 1 business day
  • Check items for availability
  • Email a list (including call number and title) to Shelley - sforbes@otis.edu
  • Library staff will pull and check out the item(s) to you
  • Library staff will contact you to make an appointment for pick-up
  • When you arrive for your appointment, call 310-665-6930; library staff will bring you the requested items

Returning Items

  • Books, journals, and DVDs may be returned to the Book Bin on campus, now located on the ground floor of the parking garage
  • Unless otherwise instructed, do not return items directly to the Library Circulation Desk
  • Items can be mailed back to campus in care of the Library.
  • Contact the Circulation Desk about returning other types of items, including iPads and Materials.
  • If you cannot return your library items for any reason, please email Shelley: sforbes@otis.edu for accommodation.

Fines and Fees

All overdue fines for students, faculty, and staff have been forgiven.

  • No overdue fines will accrue from March 13, 2020 - May 11, 2021
  • For students, registration blocks for unpaid library fees have been removed

Other fees may still be assessed.

Online Access

Electronic Access to Physical Items

If you cannot come to campus, please contact Library staff on how to access e-versions of items in our collections.

  • We will help you find a version online, usually through our databases
  • Check the Remote Access Guide for tips on searching for these items yourself
  • Library staff will do limited scanning of book chapters and articles when no e-version is available

Online Resources

Students, faculty and staff can access the library databases, ebooks, and streaming videos via the library website

Other Services

Workshops

Fall 2020 - Spring 2021: All workshops will be held virtually.
Most workshops will be available asynchronously as an online tutorial or video. In some cases, Library staff can meet synchronously via Zoom.

Temporarily Out of Service

These services are not available until further notice:

  • Putting books and DVDs on reserve
  • Tours of the Library
  • In-person workshops, whether led by Library staff or Faculty
  • Group Study Room
