Physical Access

Physical Access

Starting August 30th, the Library will be open without restriction

  • no appointment needed
  • normal occupancy

Research and reference assistance is available by appointment. We can meet on Zoom, by email, over the phone, or in person. Drop-in assistance will be available later this term.

Please note: Physical access to the Library will be limited to members of the Otis community who need to use our facilities for curricular support. Although we love having people hang out, please come to the Library only when you absolutely need to use our collections, computers, and/or printers.

Health & Safety Precautions

Patrons should adhere to all campus-wide safety precautions, as detailed on Otis Forward.

While using the Library, all patrons must:

  • wear masks over their mouth and nose
  • wipe down your work area when you have finished

Masks, hand sanitizer, wipes, and gloves are available in the Library.

First-Time Users

Welcome to the Library!

  • if you have not already done so, please fill out the Library Usage Agreement form. We will then be able to set up your library account and you you will be able to check out items.
  • Bring your Otis ID Card with you. Students can pick up their cards from the Security Office. For more information about these cards, please contact the Student Activities Office

Online Access

Electronic Access to Physical Items

If you cannot come to campus, please contact Library staff on how to access e-versions of items in our collections.

  • We will help you find a version online, usually through our databases
  • Check the Remote Access Guide for tips on searching for these items yourself
  • Library staff will do limited scanning of book chapters and articles when no e-version is available

Online Resources

Students, faculty and staff can access the library databases, ebooks, and streaming videos via the library website

Workshops

Workshops in Fall 2021

Most workshops will be available asynchronously as an online tutorial or video. In some cases, Library staff can meet synchronously via Zoom.

Due to low staffing in the Library, asynchronous delivery is preferred.

Delivery Options

  • Online via Zoom (synchronous)
    • Library staff can visit the class via Zoom
    • May include dividing students into smaller groups and breakout rooms
  • Video Demos, Recordings, and Tutorials (asynchronous)
    • Most will be video recordings with transcripts
    • Some are available as a tutorial or DIY presentation
    • Librarian will not be present
    • Email library@otis.edu for details
  • On Campus  (synchronous)
    • Will meet in the Library Computer Lab
    • Faculty attendance is required
    • Librarian will be present
  • Students can make individual research appointments with Heather Cleary

Request a workshop on our new booking form. Library staff will then confirm the time and date via email.

  • Introduction to Databases - used in Introduction to Visual Culture, available as a tutorial guide or synchronous session
  • Introduction to Information Literacy - used in Writing in the Digital Age, available as a tutorial guide
  • Finding and Evaluating Images - used in Birth of the Modern, available as a recording or synchronous session
  • Evaluating and Annotating Sources - used in Ways of Knowing, available as a tutorial guide or as a synchronous session
  • Capstone Refresher - used in Capstone, available as a recording or synchronous session
  • Guided Research - have your students make one-on-one appointments
  • Josef Albers: Interaction of Color - used in Foundation, available as a tutorial guide
  • Artists' Books - used in many classes; contact us for access to online worksheets and presentations
  • Materials Collection - used in many classes; make an appointment
