Fall 2020 Re-Opening Plans

Millard Sheets Library Is Re-Opening!

We are scheduled to physically re-open on Monday, August 31st, 2020!

  • Physical access will be by appointment only; no drop-ins are allowed
  • To sign up for a slot, follow the directions on Otis Forward
  • Local patrons may request items that will be available for pick-up in the parking garage
  • If you cannot come to campus, please contact Library staff on how to access e-versions of items in our collections.

Physical Access Policies

Please note: Physical access to the Library will be limited to members of the Otis community who need to use our facilities for curricular support. Although we love having people hang out, please come to the Library only when you absolutely need to use our collections, computers, and/or printers.

While using the Library, all patrons must:

  • make an appointment in advance; no drop-ins are allowed
  • wear masks
  • wear gloves (provided by us) to handle Library items
  • follow physical distancing guidelines
  • follow all signage on floors and furniture to maintain phyiscal distancing
  • follow all directions from staff, which may include showing symptom verification

How to Access Library Resources from Off-Campus

Students, faculty and staff can access the library databases, ebooks, and streaming video via the library website

Who was Millard Sheets anyway?

In 1954 Millard Sheets was appointed Director of Otis College. Under his leadership, the school's academic program was restructured so that BFA and MFA degrees were offered.

You may be familiar with his mosaic work on Los Angeles bank buildings.

Library Exhibitions

The Millard Sheets Library regularly exhibits items from its Special Collections, especially from the Artists' Books Collection. Check the display case at the library entrance.

Recent exhibitions have included Chance Operations, Random Access and From Here to There.

Student Learning Center

The Student Learning Center (SLC) is a friendly space for students on the NW side of the Library where you can receive free support in writing, math, and study skills from peer tutors.

Teaching / Learning Center

The Teaching/Learning Center (TLC) is a faculty dedicated space where you can work as well as receive support in teaching best practices, instructional technologies, and training on Otis College systems such as O-Space, Zoom, and Webmail.
