Visual Culture 2: Unpacking Art, Power, and Modernity

What is "Wall Text?"

Wall text provides people with more information about the works on view and how they relate to the purpose of the exhibition. Often, wall text can help provide context about the artworks themselves and their connection to the topic being explored.

Your assignment is to write brief wall texts (one per room, 250 words each) that comment upon the key concepts being investigated. Be sure to relate them to 1-2 featured visual examples in the room. Consider:

  • The artist’s background and context
  • The work’s significance in relation to your theme
  • Any problematic aspects of the work’s creation or reception
