Past Faculty Development Activities: INFUSING DIVERSITY INTO THE CURRICULUM

Fall 2018: This grant program is no longer active.

Please consider a RESEARCH GRANT instead.

Grants

Otis College seeks to infuse diversity into its curriculum through organic, faculty-driven means, based on the following statement:

Diversity is a value and practice of actively recognizing the plurality of positions, methodologies, and practices as well as respecting individuals and groups regardless of and sometimes because of their differences. In a global world that is complex and multidimensional, diversity often involves a convergence of multiple identities, moving beyond tolerance to an appreciation of diversity as a rich resource with significant benefits for students, faculty, and the institution.

To this end, Otis College is supporting interested, eligible faculty members with Faculty Development resources for two new initiatives:

  1. Faculty Learning Community
  2. Curricular Diversification Grants (no longer active)

Otis College will actively pursue initiatives, structures, and programming values that actively strive for the widest inclusiveness of individuals and groups, with particular attention to those whose access to opportunity, equality, equity, and social justice have been diminished because of their race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression, socioeconomic status, or exceptionalities.

Curricular Diversification Grants

Grants of $300 per semester are available to support faculty members who wish to participate in research into how diversity can be incorporated into the courses they teach, with an emphasis on actual infusion of this kind they have accomplished or are currently undertaking in their course(s).

Eligibility

All full-time, adjunct, and part-time faculty who have taught for a minimum of 1 year at Otis and have Chair approval are eligible. All faculty are encouraged to apply.

Faculty Learning Community Participation

A focused working group, or Faculty Learning Community, will focus on the challenges attendant to infusion of diversity into our curriculum. Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) allow participants, as part of a group, to research, discuss, debate, synthesize perspectives on, and make recommendations about a common theme or goal.

Interested faculty members may apply to participate in the FLC.  Those selected will receive FLC Participation grants of $300 per semester, or $600 per academic year.

Eligibility

All full-time, adjunct, and part-time faculty who have taught for a minimum of 1 year at Otis and have Chair approval are eligible. All faculty are encouraged to apply.
