Faculty Development Resources: CURRICULAR INNOVATION GRANTS

Overview

Curricular Innovation grants are available year-round from the Teaching/Learning Center to support research in exploring eLearning and/or emerging best practices/methodologies in teaching. 

BFA/MFA Grant Eligibility

All full-time, adjunct, and part-time faculty who have taught for a minimum of 1 year at Otis College are eligible.

Extension Grant Eligibility

Extension Instructors are eligible to participate in HyFlex Training with department approval.

HyFlex Training Grant

The Program

Join Teaching/Learning Center staff for this 3-hour intensive exploring HyFlex instruction. This program is offered once a semester.

The Grant

Upon successful completion, BFA/MFA faculty are awarded a grant of $300.00. Completion is determined by participation in 3-hour synchronous training and required worksheet (1 additional hour). Extension Instructors can participate if application is approved and will be compensated for 4 hours.

A digital badge is earned for the successful completion of HyFlex Training as a way to mark the achievement and acquisition of new skills and knowledge.

Pedagogy Course Grant: Bricks, Clicks, and Learning

The Course

"Bricks, Clicks, and Learning" whether in a traditional and/or virtual classroom has evolved to include many diverse practices and methodologies. This course will introduce you to new and emerging pedagogies. Many of the theories and tools presented and discussed in this course are not discipline-specific and can be applied in any type of instructional environment.

This is a 6-week online asynchronous course with 1 mandatory synchronous orientation designed for Otis College BFA/MFA faculty.

Offerings:

  • "Bricks, Clicks, and Learning" is offered once a semester.

Course Requirements:

  • Participation in and completion of an online six-week asynchronous pedagogy course called "Bricks, Clicks, and Learning."
  • The total time commitment for this course is approximately 3-5 hours per week including required coursework.
  • You will be expected to keep up with all course readings and postings, as well as interact with fellow “students” and reflect upon your experiential learning.

Teach eLearning Course/s

Successful completion of "Bricks, Clicks, and Learning" is required for all BFA/MFA faculty to teach eLearning courses at Otis College.

Completion of "Bricks, Clicks, and Learning" does not guarantee that you may teach an eLearning course. Department Chairs determine which and how many eLearning courses are offered each semester.


The Grant

Upon successful completion, BFA/MFA faculty are awarded a grant of $600.00. Completion is determined by course participation and required coursework.

Curricular Innovation Series Grant

The Program

The Teaching/Learning Center is launching Summer 2022 the Curricular Innovation Series - a sequence of workshop offerings. Topics will be announced on an ongoing basis through the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Examples include: creating online learning environments, understanding learning and motivation, integrating universal design for learning (UDL) principles into course instruction, classroom assessment, and many more.

Each workshop in the Curricular Innovation Series is 1 hour and will be offered in the HyFlex modality so participants can choose to attend online or on-campus synchronously.

The Grant

Upon successful completion of any 4 workshops in the Curricular Innovation Series, BFA/MFA faculty are awarded a grant of $400.00. Completion is determined by participation in the workshop and completion of a post-workshop activity estimated to take an additional hour.

The Goals

  • Increase faculty knowledge of instructional best practices
  • Create an alternative training pathway for faculty who are unable to complete “Bricks, Clicks, and Learning” course
  • Provide an opportunity for faculty to demonstrate and enhance their understanding of instructional best practices
