This course will introduce you to new and emerging pedagogies. Many theories and tools presented and discussed in this course are not discipline-specific and can be applied in any instructional environment.

This is a 6-week online asynchronous course with 1 mandatory synchronous orientation designed for Otis College BFA/MFA faculty.

Offerings:

  • "Bricks, Clicks, and Learning" is offered in the Summer term to best accommodate teaching and professional schedules.

Course Requirements:

  • Participation in and completion of an online six-week asynchronous pedagogy course called "Bricks, Clicks, and Learning."
  • The total time commitment for this course is approximately 3-5 hours per week including required coursework.
  • You will be expected to keep up with all course readings and postings, as well as interact with fellow “students” and reflect upon your experiential learning.

Teach eLearning Course/s

Successful completion of "Bricks, Clicks, and Learning" is required for all BFA/MFA faculty to teach eLearning courses at Otis College.

Completion of "Bricks, Clicks, and Learning" does not guarantee that you may teach an eLearning course. Department Chairs determine which and how many eLearning courses are offered each semester.

The Program

The Teaching/Learning Center launched in summer 2022 the Curricular Innovation Series - a sequence of specialized workshop offerings. Topics will be announced on an ongoing basis through the fall, spring, and summer terms. Examples include: creating online learning environments, understanding learning and motivation, integrating universal design for learning (UDL) principles into course instruction, classroom assessment, and much more.

Each workshop in the Curricular Innovation Series is 1 hour.

The Grant

Upon successful completion of any 4 workshops in the Curricular Innovation Series, BFA/MFA faculty are awarded a grant of $400.00. Completion is determined by participation in the workshop and completion of a post-workshop activity, which is estimated to take an additional hour.

Grants are also available to staff during the term in which they are actively teaching in the BFA/MFA program. Per the Employee Handbook, all activities related to teaching should occur outside staff hours, and this includes participation in Teaching/Learning Center Curricular Innovation Programming. Please check with your manager before you participate to ensure there are no conflicts with your staff schedule or responsibilities.
